That's what I can remember. I'm sure there were other things too. I hop on to google whatever info I need throughout the day. Sometimes when I can't find what I need, I e-mail someone who might know (for all things technical I e-mail my #1 I.T. guy, the son :D).
There are a lot of houses for sale. Not so many in our price range, in the area we like. Yesterday we did drive by one that has possibilities, but it's hard to tell until we can get in to see the house. The aerial view shows the home sits pretty far back on the lot. Which is a drawback in our opinion. We tend to utilize behind-the-house space more than in-front-of-the-house space. But the property is in a location we like, it has the requisite two bedrooms and even has covered space for a car that could easily be enclosed for a shop area. Definitely worth a look-see so now we're waiting to hear back from the realtor as to when we can go look at it.
Cream of tartar can either be cremor tártaro or crema de tártar. Not sure which is used here but I'll find out!
The reason I need cream of tartar is because I want to make Chocolate Meringue Cookies. I've been making a LOT of homemade chocolate pudding lately (it's one of my favorite comfort foods when I'm sick) and since it calls for only the egg yolks (three, to be exact), I have a stash of egg whites in my fridge to use up. What better way than meringue cookies?! And how fortunate that the chocolate meringue cookie recipe calls for three egg whites. That means I have enough for four or five batches.
I'm pretty sure my English class will enjoy the cookies!
Everything we're doing in class I pulled off the internet. I had no idea I'd end up teaching English so I didn't come prepared...no books, no materials of any kind, no preparation. This is truly one of those by-the-seat-of-your-pants endeavors!
Still not sure what to do about the broken off headphone jack. But we're working on possibilities.
Didn't think to look up how to deal with harsh chemicals right away, but the treatment (soaking in water mixed with baking soda) still helped half an hour later. The white splotches on Ivan's hands mostly went away after the soaking.
The Closer returns July 12. Yay! I just adore Brenda Leigh Johnson, don't you?
Since it's possible you might end up with an excess of egg whites at some point in your life, I wanted to share the chocolate meringue cookie recipe with you. They are scrumpdillyicious!
CHOCOLATE MERINGUE COOKIES
3 egg whites
1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2/3 cup white sugar
1 T. unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 c. semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 300° F (150° C).
Combine egg whites, cream of tartar, and vanilla.
Beat until the whites form soft peaks.
Slowly add sugar; beat until stiff peaks form, and mixture becomes glossy.
Fold in cocoa and chocolate chips.
Drop mixture by teaspoonfuls on to a greased cookie sheet.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
Now I'm off to find cremor tártaro or crema de tártar so I can make some of that chocolatey goodness myself.

I just googled the etymology of my name (Dana) & I hooted with laughter. What WAS my mother thinking? This is for a poetry challenge - so you'll get to hear all my thoughts about it. Heh.
I probably look up things at least a half dozen times a day. At LEAST. Reading an article - who the heck is that guy? Google! What's the website for the hotel my boss is staying in next month? Google! I really don't know how I lived before. I know I looked things up in encyclopedias & almanacs - seems like ancient history now!
We Google everything too. I'll google wherever I'm headed so I can see what it looks like so I won't be as likely to get lost. And then I google everything else too. Hubs and I often wonder how we survived without the internet! LOL

here's what thRemoving Broken Headphone Jack
Assuming you have tried to pull it out with needle nose plyers and could not, take an ordinary drinking straw, the skiny kind, and cut 1 1/2 inch off the end. Take this short piece and put it in the hole over top and around, the broken off part. Do not force it. It will go in about 1/8 inch to 1/2 inch or so, depending on your computer. If the straw is too big around to fit in the hole split it along it's length and roll it up again overlapping the edges to make it smaller. Take the plastic tube that comes taped to the side of many spray cans and slide it inside the straw in the hole, till it stops at the broken part. Mix up a small amount of 2 part epoxy on a piece of foil. Take the plastic tube out of the straw and dip one end of it into the epoxy and then while holding the straw in the hole place the epoxy coated tube back inside straw until it stops at broken part. The idea is to get epoxy on the tube and the broken part while the straw keeps it off other parts. When the epoxy sets you should be able to pull the broken part out by pulling out on the straw and tube. Be patient and give the epoxy lots of time (up to 24 hrs.) to set.
If you can get warranty service, do that. If you can't get service and the straw trick above did not work, one other technique is to use a refill from a standard bic pen. First, with a flashlight check to see if the broken headphone piece has a metal post or protrusion on the end. If it does, gently insert the hollow end of the pen refill into the jack and gently work it around until it slides over the metal protrusion. You'll feel it if it does. If the refill doesn't easily go into the jack, you're using the wrong size refill. Find some superglue that will bond metal to the refill. Test this first since not all superglues work on the plastic used in refills. If this test works, then wrap a piece of tape around the end of the refill, leaving just about 1mm excess tape extending beyond the hollow end of the refill. This excess bit should help protect the internal components from the glue. Then drop a small amount of superglue into the hollow end of the refill. Use a pin to pop any air bubble that forms and make sure the glue went into the hollow part and not around the refill or on the protective tape. Gently insert the hollow end into the jack and, keeping it straight, carefully work it around until the hollow end slides over the metal protrusion of the broken bit of the plug. Hold it in place for a few minutes, then wait until the glue sets (about an hour). Slowly pull the refill straight out and hopefully it brought the broken bit with it.ey say about removing a broken jack from the socket....

350* oven, 15 mins
3 egg yolks
1 teaspoons grated lime zest
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
2/3 cup fresh (preferable) or bottled Key lime juice
Sweetened whipped cream for garnish
1 9-inch graham cracker crust
I love The Closer, too! But don't you think she would have been a more authentic Southerner if her middle name were spelled "Lee" instead of "Leigh?"

I often have the egg/egg white problem, too. Some things that egg whites are good for: angel food cake, meringues, homemade marshmallows. I often end up with extra egg whites because I've used my egg yolks making homemade ice cream. Yum!
Just a tip if you don't know already. Roughly, 1 egg white = 2 TB, so if you have dumped all your egg whites together and just have a big container of them in the fridge, you'll just need 6 TB of egg whites for each batch of your meringues :-)
So I guess we all really like Google. I do too. I also enjoy seeing property from above, which is why I love Google Earth. You can type in an address and it flies you right to where it is and you can take a look. I´ve done that to serveral blog friends addresses and it lets me get an even better idea how they live. :)
That was "cremor tártaro" and the only place I could get it when we were down there was a farmacia.
We needed to know how to say cream of tartar over in SP.
