Oops! Almost missed a day...

Going, going, almost gone. The day just whipped by so fast and I suddenly realized I have half an hour to get a post in under the wire.

Typical Sunday here. Only four boys showed up for soccer but that's okay. Have been busy packing and preparing for our trip tomorrow. Had asado tonight with Pablo and Oscar, two young men from a Bible Institute who are spending their summer helping with the ministry. Their desire is to reach these young men who have been coming to soccer every weekend.

Have enjoyed laughing and eating and telling stories. The men have been giving Tina a hard time for not liking morzilla (blood sausage) but gotta give the girl credit for trying it. She and I agree it's not so much the taste as the texture and the idea. My once very picky eater has turned into a foodie who will try pretty much anything once...including python while we lived in Africa (the smell alone kept me from taking a bite).

So what's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten?

My grandfather made brain pudding when we butchered. I don't remember whether I actually tried some or not...doesn't appeal to me. I used to be very picky, but at age 16 my parents let me travel to France to live with a family for the summer. My mother's parting words were, try everything. So I did, mostly. My French mere, thought all American's like pizza, so she made some...her style. Whole tomato slices, cheese and whole anchovies - heads and all. Those little eyes staring up at me...couldn't do it. I guess I turned several shades of green because ma mere offered to make me a poached egg instead. I agreed!

good to know a picky eater can turn into a foodie!! there is hope for my boy!!!

Let's see, the weirdest thing I have tried is probably goat when we were on a mission trip in St. Lucia. I know that is not that weird, but it's all I could think of. My husband and son ate frog soup in China once.

have a GREAT vacation!

In Zambia I had fried grasshoppers. They tasted like fried okra, so if I didn't LOOK at what I was putting in my mouth I was ok. I've also had rattlesnake & frog legs - both of which reminded me of chewy chicken. Meh.

When Stephan has fresh venison, he prepares the heart. I just can't eat it. I *think* I tried it once (can't remember for sure).

I remember watching them butcher a pig and make blood sausage in Germany, from our upstairs apartment. But never 'believed' in eating blood sausage.

Morcilla.. have eaten it, but wouldn't order it in a restaurant.. I'll even pass over it in a parrillada. Sounds like an interesting vacation. We've had a few of them, but not so far-ranging. Ask Ivan about the 'pĂcaro' experience with the short cut across the sierras.
